Yoga is a nature based tradition that cultivates the will to breakthrough to a new experience of one’s self. Backpacking is a nature immersion experience that challenges the will and allows for a new experience of one’s self. This weekend trip combines the techniques of yoga with the challenges of backpacking to bring about a transformational experience.
This weekend is an outdoor experience for hikers interested in learning a little yoga or for yogi’s interested in learning the basics backpacking. This 3 day/2 night retreat will take you outside of your typical routine, immerse you in nature and give you the opportunity to achieve breakdown-to-breakthrough moments.
Professional yoga instructors will teach you simple breathing exercises and yoga poses to foster introspection in an wilderness setting. There will be opportunities for journaling, meditation and silent hiking. There are be a few thigh-burning climbs to provide the opportunity for you to engage your will and match your movement to your breath.
Each day will provide a chance to experience the activities listed below. Your guides will weave these opportunities into the weekend.
Breath Work: Techniques for maintaining breath awareness while hiking and control while climbing hills.
Posture: Maintaining proper body alignment & posture while carrying the weight of a backpack.
Backpacking: Our mileage will average 9 miles a day. We will incorporate some challenging climbs and creek crossings. Backpackers will take part in setting up/breaking down camp; preparation of meals; campfire camaraderie and basically enjoying the full outdoors experience with respect to nature and making a minimal impact.
Yoga: Introducing yoga poses that cultivate body awareness and are supportive of the backpacking experience. Integrating post hike poses to release any tension that builds up while backpacking.
Experiential: Simple meditation exercises, options for journaling and group discussion about the experience.
